Notorious B.I.G.’s Mom Passes Away At 72
With our heavy hearts, we regret to report the passing of Voletta Wallace, the mother of Christopher Wallace, The Notorious B.I.G. According to TMZ, she passed on Friday morning in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania at the age of 72; their source, Monroe County Coroner, Thomas Yanac. TMZ also reports at the time of death, she was in hospice care and died of natural causes.
Ever since her sons death in 1997, Voletta oversaw his estate, helping keep his legacy alive, passing down his earnings from her late son to her grandchildren, T'yanna and CJ Wallace. Multiple sources report at the time of Biggie's death, his net worth was around $10 million. Now, nearly 28 years later, it's estimated to be worth $160 million. She was present for her son's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the time she said: "As a mother, I'm extremely proud of his accomplishments. You know, I still see such a young man at a young age, and sadly, he's not here to witness all this. But it's an astute honor, and as another, I'm just elated for that."
"Many of [his songs] speak truth...it might be gritty, and maybe the language is so out there, but he was honest. There was nothing fake about what he was doing. I think for such a young man to resonate such honesty in his lyrics is awesome"
Last time we heard from Voletta Wallace, she provided her reaction to the sexual abuse allegations towards Sean 'Diddy' Combs. As many know, Voletta's son, Biggie, was signed to Diddy's label, Bad Boy Records. Speaking to Rolling Stone, regarding a profile piece on the music mogul, that was published in May 2024, Wallace said:
"I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him. And you can quote me on that...because I liked him. I didn't want to believe all the awful things, but I'm so ashamed and embarrassed. I'm praying for Cassie. I'm praying for his mother. I don't want to believe the things that I've heard, but I've seen [the hotel video]. I pray that he apologizes to her. I hope to God he sits her down and spills his guts and apologize to her"
Voletta's social media accounts remains a dedication to her son. Her Instagram bio reads: "protecting the legacy of my son, Christopher Wallace. Grandmother, avid gardener and a faithful servant of God"
