Martin Lawrences To Return For ‘Blue Streak 2’
It looks like the success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die has got Martin Lawrence returning to the big screen once again, after Sony Pictures announced they’re set to make a sequel to his 1999 comedy, Blue Streak. This comes 25 years after the first was released in theaters and according to Deadline, the new film is currently in early development with no other talent, aside from Lawrence starring, currently involved.
If you can recall, the original film starred Lawrence as a jewel thief, who disguises himself as a detective in order to recover a diamond left at a police station. Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, Nicole Ari Parker and Tamala Jones would share the screen in co-starring roles, there is no word yet if they'll be returning. It's also been reported that Lawrence will be producing the sequel through his production company Run Tel Dat.
Now, when news broke of the new movie, Lawrence took to social media, in order to share with his fans. As a caption, he would write: "Y'all better be ready to get all up [in] this thing, cause Blue Steak 2 is on the way! Much love to my team, Run Tel Dat Entertainment for hustling hard to make this a reality"
Many were excited once news of Blue Streak 2 became public, as comedians like DC Young Fly and Deon Cole would congratulate Lawrence on the new film and many social media users would advocate for them to get roles. Many Instagram users also hoped for the return of Dave Chappelle, after having such a memorable role in the 1999 original.
One user on social media would express enthusiasm by writing: "What! Damn Marty Mar! This is so epic. I can't wait, it's gonna be hilarious. I wonder if Tulley will be in it again. Seriously thank you for coming back and giving your fans more memories and laughs"
One more social media user would do the same: "My God this can't be real. Another Blue Steak? This is awesome news. After this we need a Black Knight 2"
Much like other users, one would message "Dave Chappelle gotta come back and do a cameo too"
While another user would write: "I need that 1999 2000s nostalgia. Please don't try to use modern day slang in the movie. Blue Streak is a classic. Do not rush this"
Now, aside from a sequel to Blue Streak, talks about a potential fifth Bad Boys film are ongoing, particularly after the film surpassed $400 million at the box office, pushing the entire franchise past the billion dollar mark
In addition to this new Blue Streak, Lawrence is currently working on a dramatic prequel to the sitcom, Martin, called, Young Martin, which seems to be in the spirit of Bel-Air, following a dramatic retelling of the popular 1990s sitcom.
So, what do you guys think about the latest news involving a sequel to Blue Streak, and how do you feel about Lawrence latest return?
