Dave Chappelle Responds To The 'LA Wildfires' During SNL Monologue

On Saturday, Dave Chappelle took the stage at SNL just two days before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and in the midst of the Los Angeles wild fires. The latter was Chappelle's first topic of his 17-minute monologue, which is now noted as the longest in SNL history. Chappelle would begin by roasting poor people for not sympathizing with celebrities that lost their homes in the fires.

From there, he would mention the conspiracy theories he's heard about how the fires started, which include arsonists. Chappelle would add there were probably a multitude of factors that led to the fires becoming the catastrophe it was. In reference to all of the unlikely factors that came together, he would joke that it's possible God may hate those people: "And that's not true because West Hollywood was unscathed. Because how can you burn what is already flaming?"

Chappelle would tell the audience he heard this was the most expensive natural disaster to happen in United States history. Chappelle's theory is because many people in L.A. have nice things. He would add: "I could burn 40,000 acres in Mississippi for like, six or seven hundred dollars"

Now, that the fires have subsided, part of which is due to the help of other countries like Canada and Mexico, who sent planes and firefighters respectively. In response to the help from other countries, Dave would say: "Trump was like, make sure they leave when they finished"

Of course, Chappelle's monologue was widely celebrated amongst his comedy peers and fans online. Cedric the Entertainer would reshare the entire 17-minute stand-up set, saying: "Masterful! Dave Chappelle has evolved into one of the greatest orators of our time" DL Hughley would reshare that same post from Cedric.

Aside from two of the Kings of Comedy, many on social media felt the same way. One user on Instagram would comment on Hughley and Cedric's repost by writing:

"This was a masterpiece. He may be the best and most intelligent comedian without any antics or any characters just talking about real life stuff and just making you laugh out loud, he may be the greatest. Of my generation"

Another social media user would share the same sentiment by writing: "Pace, timing, set ups, punchlines, delivery, thought provoking, relatable, crowd control and fearless. DC sits on the throne. An absolute blessing to witness an immeasurable fascinating human being"

One more user would say: "Dave Chappelle is brilliant on levels that many may never reach! In a world of those who are famous for merely being popular, it's refreshing to see true artisans display their gifts and talents. Showing all, no matter their discipline, that there are levels to this! Do better indeed!"

So, what do you guys think about Dave Chappelle's monologue on Saturday Night Live? What are your thoughts on Chappelle's commentary when it comes to the L.A. wild fires?
