Martin Lawrence Responds To ‘Black Men In Dresses’ Hollywood Conspiracy
In order to promote his latest stand-up comedy tour, Y'all Know What It Is, Martin Lawrence would stop by The Breakfast Club. Aside from his comedy tour, Lawrence would also discuss his career and even addressed several longstanding rumors.
During the conversation, one co-host of the show, Charlamagne tha God would ask Lawrence about his portrayal of characters like Sheneneh Jenkins from Martin or Big Momma from the Big Momma's House films and if taking on those roles were part of selling your soul, a humiliation ritual or the Illuminati. Lawrence's response was those rumors are complete bullshit.
Now, another co-host of the show, DJ Envy would follow up Charlamagne's question by asking if portraying multiple characters, male or female, is a lost art in comedy. Charlamagne would point out Tyler Perry is the only one who currently puts on a dress.
Comedians putting on dresses for the art of comedy has been a long discussed topic. In recent years, a man wearing a dress in media has been connected to being part of the Illuminati. This is partly due to Katt Williams and his tendency to push conspiracy theories onto his audience, particularly when it comes to wearing a dress in Hollywood. Notably in 2013, Katt was asked about Kevin Hart wearing a dress in a Saturday Night Live sketch and that same Illuminati theory. While doing press work for Scary Movie 5, Katt would say:
"It is possible that there isn't anything funnier than a guy in a dress. And if that's the case, then it might also be said that there's nothing funnier than a black guy in a dress. Well, I watched all of my friends throughout my entire life be able to dunk a basketball and not me, so everybody can't do everything. So, some of us make choices. I think it's not that big a choice for others. At the end of the day, Kevin doesn't have to worry about what people are going to say about him wearing a dress because of the long line of dress wearing people before him. Now, we have Big Momma's House 1, 2 and 3. I've never seen Madea in a pants suit, I think she wears dresses, so why are we picking on poor little Kevin Hart because it was his turn next. Some of us are against the Illuminati and we are against the Illuminati at our own detriment. When people are against the Illuminati, they get punched in the face all the time, the press hates them and nobody likes them."
Many have stated the connection between a man wearing a dress in media and the Illuminati comes from Hollywood's desire to see an emasculated black man, in order to make him less intimidating. According to those sources, this is where the humiliation ritual comes from. However, when talking to comedians like Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx that have famously played women to beloved critical reviews, it's all part of the art of the genre.
So, what do you guys think about Martin Lawrence's response to wearing a dress for his iconic characters, Sheneneh and Big Momma? Do you think Lawrence putting on the dress was part of the Illuminati or a humiliation ritual? Let us know in the comments below
